McDonald’s 75th anniversary was celebrated at an open house Saturday, May 15 at their original hamburger drive-in location at 14th and E streets in San Bernardino, near San Bernardino High School. Some of the former employees at McDonald's many years ago are now local CEOs and owners of large companies in our area. McDonald's has grown world wide to over 36,000 locations with more than 440,000 employees and 68,000 customers each day. Albert Okura purchased this closed location in 1998 to house a mini-McDonald’s museum and his corporate office for his Juan Pollo Chicken restaurant chain. Okura is also the owner of a small town in Southern California - Amboy - on the famous Route 66 Highway. Per City Manager Carlos Aceves the June Great Race will leave St. Louis, MO, June 20, where 120 gorgeous antique cars will visit 20 cities along the Route 66, including Amboy, on the route to a big San Bernardino car event Saturday, June 27; then they're on to their destination at the end of Route 66 in Santa Monica.
