A Redlands Camerata

Ensemble XXI – A Redlands Camerata directed by Jeffrey H. Rickard – will present a service of Choral Evensong for the season of Lent on Sunday, April 6th in the Memorial Chapel, University of Redlands, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Anthems will include works by William Byrd (“Ave Verum Corpus”), David Conte (“O Salutaris Hostia” and “Tantum ergo”), Maurice Durufle (“Notre Pere”), Stanley M. Hoffman (“Yih’yu l’ratson”), George Oldroyd (“Prayer to Jesus”), Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (“Sicut Cervus”) and Elizabeth Poston (“Jesus Christ, the Apple Tree”). Service music associated with Choral Evensong will include choral settings by Orlando Gibbons (“Magnificat” and “Nunc Dimittis “- The Short Service) and Jeffrey H. Rickard (“Preces (Lent) and Responses” - Rite I) Ensemble XXI is a choral ensemble of over twenty voices who specialize in the presentation of Choral Evensong in the great Anglican choral tradition. Initially formed in the fall of 2008 from alumni of the Community Chorus of Redlands, the University of Redlands, and Trinity Episcopal Church Choir, this group continues to offer Choral Evensong in Memorial Chapel on a regular basis as well as branch out into the more secular idioms of madrigals and contemporary jazz. A free-will offering will be accepted in support of Ensemble XXI.
