COLTON>> At the recent Colton City Council meeting, Councilmember Dr. Luis S. Gonzalez presented Garcia Tire Shop with a “business focus” recognition award for 26 years of business in the City of Colton. "This establishment is one of our hometown success stories and totally a family affair,” Gonzalez said. Shop owners, Jair and Armida Garcia, opened their shop in September 1989, selling new tires for $15. Mike Garcia, general manager and spokesperson for the family business, said Garcia Tire Shop now sells an average of 1,000 tires per month. “The business has grown over the years,” Garcia said. During their long tenure, the Garcia's have not looked back. The two have supported their family, put their children through school and have provided service to the residents of Colton for all of their tire service needs, including rotation, sales, maintenance and balancing. The shop has six employees, including the entire Garcia family and one long-time and loyal employee, Alex Duarte, who is the shop supervisor. “I know for a fact that the business is fast, efficient and offers great service," Gonzalez said. "Three times, I have taken my car to the shop for various tire problems, including a complete replacement of all of my tires. On that day, I was in and out in 30 minutes.” “I’ve shopped there for years," Mayor DeLaRosa said at the city council meeting. "This business has truly been an asset to the community.” All work is done outdoors and the business continues on, rain or shine. When customers go to the shop, they drive in and while they go in to pay, the work is done and then they drive out. “It’s an amazing set-up,” Gonzalez said with a wide smile. As far as future plans are concerned, Garcia said the family would like to continue the business indefinitely and possibly grow into a large facility. Garcia Tire Shop is open 7 days a week and closed for major holidays. The hours of operation include 8 a.m.–6:30 p.m. during the week, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturdays and 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Sundays. Garcia Tire Shop is located at 285 S. La Cadena Ave. between L Street and M Street.
