On Monday, Sept. 7 at approximately 9:30 p.m, Deputy Luis Mendoza from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Central Station Loma Linda police responded to a call for service in the 25300 block of Cypress St. in the city of Loma Linda. A Sheriff's release stated the call was in regards to three teenagers walking through the neighborhood going into other residence yards and driveways. Deputy Mendoza arrived in the area and the reporting party directed him to a vehicle leaving the area. Deputy Mendoza attempted to stop the vehicle and it failed to yield to his emergency lights and siren. The driver, identified as a 16-year-old male resident of Redlands, drove at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour through residential streets, "running stops sign without any regard for the public's safety," according to the release. The juvenile allegedly ran the red light at the intersection of Loma Linda Drive and Barton Road. He also apparently attempted to make an eastbound turn but was going too fast and hit the curb to the center island, disabling his 2001 BMW, four door, and black in color. The release states that when the juvenile stopped the vehicle, one of his passengers fled on foot from the vehicle. The driver also fled on foot along with the passenger, who was identified as a 17 year-old-male also a resident of Redlands. Both suspects were detained without further incident. The 17-year-old was found to be reported as a runaway juvenile out of Redlands. During a check of the vehicle property was located and found to have been reported stolen out of Redlands, the release stated. The property was recovered and returned to the victim. The teenagers allegedly told deputies they came to Loma Linda to check for unlocked vehicles and steal items left inside. The 16-year-old was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for Felony Evading, Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. The 17-year-old was arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall for Possession of Stolen Property and Conspiracy to Commit a Crime. On Tuesday, Sept. 8, deputies responded to several calls of vehicle burglaries, theft from vehicles and petty thefts. These crimes could be related to the suspect’s that have been taken into custody, the investigation is ongoing.
