The REC Center, a non-profit organization established in 2012, provides programs, services and events to communities without their own park & rec departments. On March 21, 2014, The REC Center will further this mission by hosting their largest fundraiser for 2014. You are invited to “Shine like a star” at the 2014 Mayor’s Ball, in support of the youth of Grand Terrace. “When we first began our efforts in 2012, we conducted a community survey to assess the needs of the community. The greatest need revealed through the survey, was the need for after school programs for our middle school-aged children,” explains Jennifer Araiza, Founder and Executive Director of The REC Center. In an effort to raise the necessary funds to bring The REC Center program onto the Terrace Hills Middle School Campus, the organization is hosting the 2014 Mayors Ball. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to these efforts. “After meeting with administration from Terrace Hills, it became obvious that the community assessment of this need is accurate,” continued Araiza. Of all the students who attended The REC Center last year, only 10% were in the 13-17 year age group. “Given the fact that the community has identified this age group as one of our biggest needs, 10% is not acceptable. The best way to make the biggest impact for this age group, is to bring the program to them,” Araiza added. The event, Sponsored by Farmers Insurance AgencyPoint Recruiting Center and 3Ring Creative, will feature a Meet & Mingle optional event (limited to 50 tickets), Catered Meal by 24 Carrots, Performances by students of The REC Center, Dance Dimensions and other Local Talent and a Silent Auction. "It is truly an honor to be associated with this organization explains," said Grand Terrace Mayor Walt Stanckiewitz. "Providing enrichment activities for the local youths is a priority for our communities that cannot be finaincially supported by the City at this time. We need the community to step up and get behind the REC Center's efforts." So how do you support The REC Center’s efforts for afterschool programs at Terrace Hills? - Attend the Event - Become a Sponsor - Donate silent auction items - Make a donation Sponsorship forms can be downloaded online at www.RECstar.org Tickets are limited at 200 so it’s important to purchase your tickets before they are sold out. “Thank you to everyone that continues to support our efforts! Your support is greatly appreciated and valued,” finishes Araiza.
