Community Gets Dirty at Sheriff's Mud Run

Recently, the San Bernardino Sheriff's Department held their annual mud run consisted of mud path ways, pits, and other obstacles throughout the course. Every year this event brings officers, their families, and community members out for a day of physical activity in the mud. There was so much mud, some of the runners that did not have their shoes duck-taped to their legs, lost their shoes in the mud piles as they were running. As the first few runners approached the finish line, they were completely soaked from head to toe. Near the end of the 5K, there was a very large mud pit; all the runners had to slide down a mini mud hill into a pool of watery mud and swim across to get to the other side. Some of the runners were not there alone; they were a part of a running group that actually trains prior to these events. Karen Baker, a member of a group called "Power Shredd" shared that they were absolutely thrilled with how the event turned out. "This is definitely one of the hardest mud runs I've ever ran before. I love this one because it's a lot of running, hills, and mud," Baker claimed after reflecting on the many other mud runs she has participated in over the years. The mud pit closest to the end seemed to be a lot more watery than the other pits they had throughout the course. "It felt really good to get wet, especially on such a hot day," Karen said while waiting for the rest of her group members to finish. All the runners that were a part of a group cheered on their other group members. Karen finished with a time of 57 minutes, and then she walked back to the mud pit just to cheer on her other members that were still running their way through the course. At the end of the run, there was an outdoor shower area so runners could rinse off the layers of mud they had built up over the strides. By the end of the run, trash cans were overflowing with ruined, muddy shoes. Even though it was a dirty day for most, the mud run ended successfully on such a beautiful day for the community.
