Silver Sounds Flute Ensembles of Redlands will be presenting a Fall concert on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. at the San Manuel Band of Serrano Indians Gathering Hall at the Dorothy Ramon Learning center, 127 N. San Gorgonio Avenue, in Banning. The theme of the concert is “The Many Faces of the Flute.” The concert will feature six different members of the “flute family” including the piccolo, E flat flute, C-flute, alto flute, and bass flute, as well as the flute’s older “cousin”—the fife. The group will play a wide variety of music selections spanning many genres. One piece will feature players on the fife. Another piece will be performed entirely with piccolos. One selection will feature four players on alto flute. Of special note is the piece, “Within” by Ian Clark, which features various 20 and 21st century flute techniques. Tickets are $10 at the door. Proceeds from the concert help to support the programs of the Dorothy Ramon Learning Center. To reserve a ticket, or for more information, call Silver Sounds Director Jackie Aronowitz at 909-335-1833. The Silver Sounds Flute Ensembles were founded in 1993 by Redlands-based flutist Jackie Aronowitz, in order to provide local flute players with an opportunity to perform in an ensemble different from traditional bands or orchestras. There are two ensembles, one for newer, less experienced players, and a second group for more experienced players. The group currently has 11 members, ranging in age from middle-schoolers up through senior citizens.
