On Tuesday, March 8, Val Verde High School was honored to host a visit from Congressman Mark Takano (D-CA). The Val Verde Unified School District Board of Education, Superintendent, and Val Verde High School invited the Congressman to visit the campus for a demonstration of the Val Verde Graphics, and Teen Vision Production programs. Congressman Takano has always been an advocate of Career Technical Education, which provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. The Val Verde Graphics program teaches students hands on skills in textile screen printing, embroidery operation, trophy and award design, graphic artistry, banner production, laser machine operation, and chemical safety. Each quarter 75 to 85 students enter the program and spend 14 lab days learning each skill. Student portfolios are created to help them seek employment and or further their education at local community colleges and or trade schools. Teen Vision Productions is an internationally acclaimed, student operated video production program. Students receive hands-on training in all aspects of video production from script writing, to video recording, to editing. Students who have completed this program have gone on to seek further education at local community colleges, trade schools, and have gained employment with major production companies such as ABC and Fox Sports. District Superintendent, Michael R. McCormick said “We are engaging students with hands-on, practical skills with a focus on the technical arts. We see students discovering their passions in the Teen Vision and Val Verde Graphics programs at Val Verde High School.”
