The Riverside County Sheriff's Department has been awarded a $1,524,997 grant from the U.S. Department of Justice through their NCS-X Implementation Assistance Program for 2019-2020.  The grant will provide funding to assist with the ongoing project to upgrade the Department’s Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Records Management System (RMS). This upgrade will allow the Department to switch to the National Incident Based Reporting System (NIBRS) standard for crime data reporting.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department currently reports its crime statistics through the California Department of Justice Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system.  The FBI objective is to have all law enforcement agencies NIBRS compliant by January 2021.  The purpose of the NIBRS crime data reporting is to achieve statistically sound and detailed crime data for the entire nation in a standard format for analysis and reporting.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department is currently in the process of upgrading to a new fully integrated CAD and RMS that will make Sheriff personnel’s jobs more efficient and effective.  This grant will be will be used for the critical system infrastructure needed to support these functions for the entire Sheriff’s Department now and for years to come.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department looks forward to working with the U.S. Department of Justice and their NCS-X Implementation Team on this grant.
