Seminar on Mental Illness, Suicide, and Grief Offered

"Mental Illness, Suicide and Grieving the Loss of a Loved One" is the title of a new seminar to be conducted by Tammy Bradshaw-Scott on Saturday morning, Sept. 27 in Redlands. "We live in challenging and often disturbing times," observes Bradshaw-Scott. "Then, when a celebrity as talented and well known as Robin Williams is lost to suicide, many questions understandably arise. A national discussion on suicide, mental illness and grieving has raised many concerns and my hope is that this seminar will be of help to anyone wishing to join me." Tammy Bradshaw-Scott has worked as a Clinical Therapist and Psychology Intern for more than 10 years, often working with people experiencing mental illness and suicidal tendencies. She has earned a Master's of Science Degree in Counseling Psychology, an additional Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology, and is currently completing her Ph.D. Degree in Clinical Psychology. Bradshaw-Scott is also a professor at California Baptist College where she teaches in the Behavioral Science Department. In addition to her academic and clinical experience, Bradshaw-Scott also suffered the unfathomable pain of losing a child when her 20-year-old daughter died four years ago. Bradshaw-Scott will be joined by three other speakers who offer unique personal perspectives on the seminar topics. Diana Handy, Tania Ruiz and Celene Rodriguez will share their stories of loss and how they have addressed difficult circumstances. All are welcome to attend the seminar which will be held at LifeHouse Theater, 1135 North Church Street in Redlands. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and will end at 11:30 a.m., including time provided for questions and answers. Check-in time will begin at 8:30 a.m. Coffee and light refreshments will be available. There is a fee of $10 per person. The fee will be waived for those who wish to attend but are unable to pay. Pre-registration is encouraged and seating may be arranged by calling 909-335-3037. Walk-up attendees are also welcome pending seating. Ample free parking is available behind the theater facility.
