Thanks to bond refinancing and other cost-saving measures by West Valley Water District (WVWD), customers can expect a 15 percent rebate to arrive in mailboxes in early May.
The checks issued to current residential and commercial customers as of March 31, 2018, will average $100, depending on water use. The rebate on 2017 water charges was approved by the WVWD Board of Directors on January 18, 2018.
“The leadership at West Valley Water District is always looking for ways to save our customers money and has made it a priority to provide rebates whenever possible,” General Manager Robert Christman said.
In May 2016, the WVWD Board approved refunding a portion of customers’ 2015 water payments and rescinded 2016 and 2017 rate increases after staff found lower bank fees and renegotiated contracts that saved hundreds of thousands of dollars.
The latest rebate was the result of refinancing $23.9 million in bonds to a lower interest rate that will realize $4.5 million in savings by the time they mature in 2032.
