Muncy's Pin on Ceremony March Air Reserve Base

Brig. Gen. Russell A. Muncy, 452nd Air Mobility Wing commander for March Air Reserve Base, participated in a formal pin-on ceremony on Jan. 14 on base. As commander of the Air Force Reserve’s largest wing, with more than 4,000 personnel, nine C-17As and 14 KC-135Rs, Muncy directs the support of worldwide airlift and air refueling operations. Brig. Gen. Muncy is also responsible for the daily operations of March Air Reserve Base, which supports Active Duty, National Guard and Reserve tenants from the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marines as well as Department of Homeland Security personnel with the Air Marine Operations Center. Brig. Gen. Muncy was commissioned from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1983 and served on active duty as a KC-135A/R pilot and squadron flying safety officer before leaving the service in December 1990. Muncy re-entered the service with the Air Force Reserve in 1995 serving as a pilot, flying safety officer, operations plans officer, chief pilot, director of operations, group commander, vice wing commander and wing commander since that time. Brig. Gen. Muncy served at the Major Command level as the AFRC headquarters tanker operations officer at Robins Air Force Base, Ga., where he orchestrated AFRC's tanker operations in response to the events of Sept. 11, 2001. He has deployed numerous times in support of Operations DESERT SHIELD, JOINT FORGE, DELIBERATE GUARD, NORTHERN WATCH and ENDURING FREEDOM and deployed in a joint role for operations IRAQI FREEDOM and NEW DAWN. He became a Level II Joint Qualified Officer in 2013.
