The California Board of State & Community Corrections, California Violence Intervention and Prevention Grant Program (BSCC, CalVIP) awarded the City of San Bernardino $1.5 million dollars in a three year, competitive grant funds.

The CalVIP program and California Assembly Bill 1603 “Break the Cycle of Violence” are designed to improve public health and safety by supporting effective violence reduction initiatives in communities that are disproportionately impacted by violence.

The City is thrilled to announce the grant award that will increase the City’s capacity to implement a focus deterrence approach to gun-gang violence, expand street intervention outreach efforts and enhance proactive community engagement activities. Activities include sports camps, violence prevention workshops, and mentoring to the City's at risk youth.

The funding will provide the City the ability to ramp up its collaboration efforts with the County Department of Behavioral Health and County Housing Authority homeless reduction units. Strategic partnerships in the grant effort include Urban Peace Institute, Loma Linda Medical Center, and Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy and H.O.P.E. Culture.
