GTHS Athlete of the Week: Elliana Palomino

At just 17 years old, Elliana Palomino is already making a powerful impact both in the classroom and on the field. A Junior at Grand Terrace High School, Elliana boasts an impressive 4.4 GPA and has maintained straight A’s since kindergarten all while balancing a demanding schedule of academics, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

Elliana’s athletic journey began at a young age. She currently plays catcher and first base and is a three-year Varsity starter. Her love for sports started at just four years old, participating in baseball, soccer, basketball, and dance before transitioning into club soccer and traveling softball at age nine. Since then, she has developed into a key player for the Lady Titans.

In a standout performance against Summit High School, Elliana went 4-for-5 at the plate, recording a single, two doubles, and a home run. She drove in three RBIs, scored twice, hit the game tying double, and ultimately crossed the plate for the game winning run which was an all-around clutch performance that highlights her impact.

Her accomplishments speak volumes. Athletically, Elliana earned a Varsity starting position as a Freshman, received All-League honors as a Sophomore, and achieved the rare feat of hitting three home runs in a single game against Kaiser High School. Academically, she has excelled in Honors and AP courses while earning recognition on both the Principal’s and President’s Honor Roll. She is actively involved in leadership and service, serving as a Best Buddies Officer at GTHS, a HOBY Alumni representative, a participant in the San Bernardino Superintendent Student Advisory Panel, and a California Boys & Girls State Delegate.

Outside of sports, Elliana enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and exploring her interests in art and music which showcases her well rounded character beyond athletics and academics.

When asked about her biggest inspiration, Elliana shared, “Coach Bobby Flores has been the biggest influence in my sports career thus far. He has pushed me to work harder and to be better. He has taught me the importance of time management and leadership on and off the field. I would not be the student-athlete I am today without his guidance.”

Looking ahead, Elliana plans to attend college where she hopes to compete at Division I level in softball while pursuing a degree in law.

She also lives by a powerful quote from tennis legend Billie Jean King: “Pressure is a privilege, it only comes to those who earn it.”

Elliana exemplifies what it means to be a dedicated student-athlete. With strong values, an unmatched work ethic, and a commitment to excellence, she consistently pushes herself to perform at the highest level. From weekly hitting lessons from age nine to ongoing fielding and catching training with Coach Bobby, her dedication is evident in every aspect of her game.

Watching Elliana’s growth over the past year has been nothing short of inspiring. With her talent, determination, and strong support system, there’s no doubt she will continue to shine both on and off the field. The future is incredibly bright for this Lady Titan.
