The City of Colton announces that, effective Sunday, October 1, 2023, Hermosa Gardens Cemetery will transition back under City management and operations. Since 2000, Cemetery management & operations has been handled by Inland Memorial, Inc. through a long-term lease agreement. Due to changes within that organization, there was an opportunity to end the lease and resume management.  Recognizing the profound significance of Hermosa Gardens Cemetery in the lives of residents and the families of those interred there, the City Council and Staff are committed to ensuring a smooth transition and delivering the highest standard of care.

This transition marks a significant milestone for our community as we take control of this cherished resting place, ensuring its long-term care and maintenance.

CEMETERY CLOSED FOR VISITORS THROUGH OCTOBER

While we undertake this crucial transition, we regret to inform visitors that Hermosa Gardens Cemetery will be closed from October 2 to October 31, 2023. During this temporary closure, several vital improvements will be implemented, including:

  1. Landscaping and Grounds Maintenance:  Improvements scheduled include street paving, building repairs, water management and landscaping assessment, and development of a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure the grounds remain in good condition year-round.
  2. Records Management:  The City will be updating records management to further enhance accessibility and streamline cemetery records to preserve its rich history.
  3. Enhanced Visitor Experience: A focus on improving amenities for visitors, such as benches, working water faucets, and directional signage will create a more welcoming atmosphere.

 MORTUARY SERVICES

Effective September 22, 2023, Inland Memorial will no longer provide Mortuary services at Hermosa Gardens.  All mortuary related contracts with Inland Memorial can be coordinated at their Key Street location and contact can be made at 951-684-1554.   Cemetery related contracts will be managed by the City, with payments on hold until November 1.

We understand that Hermosa Gardens Cemetery holds deep meaning for many in our community. As we transition back to City operations, we are committed to enhancing customer service and upholding the highest standards of care and maintenance.  The City of Colton appreciates the trust our community has placed in us and is dedicated to providing a dignified and tranquil resting place for loved ones.

Any Cemetery related questions or concerns can be directed to cemetery@coltonca.gov or 909-370-6111, messages will be returned within two business days.  For regular updates and information, visit the City of Colton Website at Hermosa Gardens Cemetery.
