Labor Day Wishes From City News Group

This upcoming Monday is an honorary day for the hard-working men and women that are the workforce of this country, it is Labor Day. It is not just the three-day weekend where there is no work or no school, and the sales at your favorite retailers are hard to ignore. It is a celebration of the social and economic achievements of the working people who have and are actively working for the country. So let us Celebrate!

The rise of manufacturing that occurred in the late 1800s exploited the working class of America. The working person was exposed to unsafe working conditions, especially those who were from very poor and immigrated backgrounds, and the wages were wrongfully low with long hours and no days off. Even children were forced to work as young as five to six years old. The children! Labor unions started to rally and grew louder for a change in working conditions.

The Labor Day celebration became from those rallies that fought for better for the working people. It went from only being recognized by labor activists and individual states, then catching the wind in some of the industrial centers of the United States and was finally recognized as a national holiday in 1894 when President Cleveland signed it into law. The history behind Labor Day may fall through the cracks but the attitude that propelled it forward should always be remembered.

The philosophy behind the history of Labor Day rings true to American values: standing up for what is right and standing down for what is wrong. Worker rights were unjust then and because of the fight, the working person is now celebrated and rooted for! The American worker ranges in size, the color of skin, and background but each and every one of them embodies great strength, prosperity, and well-being.

We here at City New Group, get to be a part of something really special. We get to be a part of the first steps someone must take to create their own business. We encourage everyone to celebrate the efforts of the working people within your communities as we do and hope you have a safe and fun Labor Day weekend. Cheers to all!
