Mall Closure Continues, But Residents Have Ways to Stay Active and Connected

The Moreno Valley Mall continues to remain partially closed until further notice, as the City works with Riverside County Fire/CAL FIRE to address serious fire safety concerns. While most stores and the Moreno Valley Public Library Mall Branch are temporarily closed, a few businesses, including Macy’s, JCPenney, and Harkins Theaters, are operating safely. The closure remains necessary to ensure the safety of shoppers, employees, and the community.

Although the mall itself is closed, residents can still stay active and engaged. Morning walking programs at the mall are on hold, but the City offers other ways to get moving. The Moreno Valley Aquatic & Recreation Center provides space for exercise, and local parks and walking trails offer safe, open-air alternatives for staying healthy.

For employees and business owners affected by the closure, the City’s Economic Development Department, through its Business and Employment Resource Center (BERC), is providing support. This includes one-on-one consulting, technical assistance, information on financial aid and bridge funding, job search support, and skill-building opportunities. More information is available at moval.org/berc.

City fire inspectors are monitoring the mall daily, and the City Council is actively working with the mall owner through an Inspection and Abatement Agreement to bring the property into full compliance as quickly and safely as possible. While the timeline for reopening depends on completing these safety improvements, the City remains committed to ensuring the mall can reopen fully and safely for the community.

Residents can stay updated on progress and reopening plans through official City channels, at moval.org/news. The City of Moreno Valley and Riverside County Fire/CAL FIRE continue to work together to make the mall a safe place for everyone once it reopens.
