Mayor's Weekly Message: Happy Labor Day Weekend, MoVal!

By Ulises Cabrera , Mayor of Moreno Valley
August 30, 2023 at 04:40pm. Views: 215

Dear Moreno Valley Residents,

Many view the upcoming Labor Day holiday as a day off from labor, a break from work, or a 24-hour respite from our professional obligations.

But during a recent visit to our Business and Employment Resource Center, better known as the BERC, I witnessed something that deeply moved me.

I saw city employees providing Moreno Valley residents with the help they needed to obtain a great career. This was proof of Labor Day’s deeper, more symbolic meaning.

At its core, Labor Day is a holiday that celebrates our workforce and our right as Americans to earn a living.

We’ve all been unemployed or underemployed at some point in our lives, and we all know the emotional stress and financial pressures accompanying those difficult periods.

But we’ve also felt the personal satisfaction and pride when landing that job, getting that promotion, or bringing home that paycheck to provide for our family.

As we approach this holiday, I want to express my sincere appreciation for the city employees and partners who work at the BERC and help our residents find their way into—or back into—the workforce.

As Mayor of this city, I have seen first-hand how much that hard work has transformed our community for the better. I am grateful for everything they do.

On behalf of all of us at the City of Moreno Valley, I hope you have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.
