The City of Moreno Valley has been awarded the Efficient and Sustainable Road Maintenance, Construction, and Reconstruction award by the League of California Cities' Local Streets and Roads Committee for its citywide Pavement Rehabilitation Program for Phases One and Two.
Evaluative criteria for the award include cost-effectiveness, financial sustainability, employment of emerging technologies, improvement of pavement conditions, and efficient utilization of resources.
The Pavement Rehabilitation Program is the largest Public Works project in Moreno Valley's history and allocated a historic $50 million toward fully repaving and rehabilitating nearly 190 miles of road throughout Moreno Valley.
“We are deeply honored to receive this special award for this high-profile project. The Pavement Rehabilitation Program condensed ten years of work into only 18 months. I am proud of our incredible team of contractors, vendors, and City staff that brought this project to life and saw Phases One and Two through to completion,” said Moreno Valley Mayor Ulises Cabrera.
Moreno Valley City Council approved the Pavement Rehabilitation Program on February 1, 2022. Streets were selected based on existing pavement condition and traffic volume. Local streets were rehabilitated in groups by proximity to ensure rehabilitation efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Funding for this historic allocation was derived from General Fund savings made possible by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) fund, which offset the City's Public Safety costs. The City Council announced an additional $20 million in additional road repair throughout 2024 and 2025.
