Power Up For Public Power Week

Lights, homes, and businesses across Moreno Valley glow, shine, and hum with purpose each day thanks to Moreno Valley Utility (MVU). On October 7, MVU will present a proclamation to the City Council recognizing Public Power Week, celebrated during the first week of October.

“Public power is more than electricity, it’s about empowering people,” said Mayor Ulises Cabrera. “MVU is extremely customer-focused and always working to deliver reliable, affordable energy to our community. This week is a celebration of our residents and their role in making this utility a success.”

To kick off Public Power Week, MVU will host a Customer Appreciation Event on Saturday, October 4, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 14133 Frederick Street, inviting residents to connect with utility staff and learn more about the programs and services that power their homes and businesses. The event reflects MVU’s “powered by purpose” spirit, grounded in the people it serves.

Over the past year, MVU has been working on restructuring its electric rate to make energy more affordable for families and businesses while advancing its clean energy goals. These changes are being shaped through public engagement and detailed analysis to reflect MVU’s core commitment: to serve with pride and care.

From engineers in the field to the front desk team, and from solar arrays to wind resources, MVU is building the City’s energy future, block by block. This year’s Public Power Week is both a retrospective “look back” at how far Moreno Valley has come, and an exciting preview of where the City is headed. Moreno Valley is charging ahead with innovation, equity, and environmental responsibility. It is yet another example of how the City is “Community built. Destiny driven.”
