Construction to replace approximately two miles of aging water pipeline will begin next week as part of the City’s 2020 CIP Water Pipeline Replacement project, approved by the City Council at their April 20, 2021, meeting.

The project includes the replacement of water pipelines in various areas of the City that have deteriorated and exceeded their anticipated service lives. Pipelines to be replaced were selected based on maintenance history, inspection records and coordination with future paving improvements. Much of the steel pipe being replaced was originally installed as far back as the 1930s to the 1950s.

Following the replacement of the pipelines, affected streets will be resurfaced as part of the City’s Pavement Management Program 2020 Street Improvement Project.

Work is set to begin May 3 and is expected to be completed by July. Project timelines may change as a result of unforeseen events or weather conditions.

Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Residents will be notified approximately one week in advance before construction activities in their neighborhood and 48 hours in advance of any interruption to water service.

The $2 million contract was awarded to Tryco General Engineering of Rimforest, CA., and is being managed by the City of Redlands Municipal Utilities and Engineering Department. Questions may be directed to construction manager Kyle Wagner at (909) 253-8698.
