Families throughout Redlands are being encouraged to visit local libraries this summer as reading programs return with expanded activities, prizes, and educational opportunities for children of all ages.
The annual Summer Reading Challenge aims to keep students engaged academically while school is out. Participants can earn prizes by tracking reading hours, attending educational workshops, and participating in themed activities.
Library officials say the program helps combat the "summer slide," where students may lose some academic progress during vacation months.
"This program encourages a lifelong love of reading while providing fun opportunities for families to learn together," said a library representative.
Activities include story times, science demonstrations, arts and crafts, and guest presentations throughout the summer.
