The San Bernardino Public Library is celebrating National Library Card Sign-Up and Literacy Month in September for patrons of all ages who sign up for a new library card.

Patrons are encouraged to visit one or more of the four San Bernardino Public Libraries (SBPL), either in person to sign-up for a regular library card or virtually at www.sbpl.org to sign up for a digital library card to utilize online resources.

SBPL joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind parents, caregivers, and students that signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning.

Among the various online resources available via our website are Overdrive eBooks and eAudiobooks and Brainfuse Live Homework Help offering expert assistance for learners of all ages via chat almost every day of the year from 1 to 10 p.m.

Overdrive offers its own Instant Digital Card to city residents via its Libby app that is instantly ready to use.

SBPL also offers a free online library card through www.sbpl.org or directly at http://catalog.sbpl.org:8086/onlineBorrowerRegistration.html . This card takes about a business day for staff to activate.

SBPL offers literacy tutoring through the Jack L. Hill Lifelong Learning Center, providing services to adults, children, and families. Everyone is invited to participate in the many activities and events offered in the Learning Center, encouraging lifelong learning and developing workforce training and skills.

Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

Information about library services is available at 909-381-8201 and www.sbpl.org and information about Literacy Department services is available at 909-381-8205.
