The Unveiling of the Ayala Park Community Garden

The community of Bloomington gathered on Thursday, Oct. 17 to celebrate yet another exciting milestone: the completion of a community garden at Ayala Park. 

Since the park’s opening in 2022, Ayala Park has been a beacon of excellence in the Inland Empire, consistently raising the bar for public recreational spaces. The park has garnered several prestigious awards, including recognition from the American Public Works Association (APWA), the American Association of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the National Association of Counties (NACo) for Project of the Year. Ayala Park’s collaborative efforts, such as its senior meals program and Wi-Fi project, have also received multiple NACo awards for their impact on the community.

Special appreciation was extended to the Girl Scout Troop 448, who have committed to maintaining the garden, which will ensure its longevity. 

The community garden is the latest in a series of improvements at Ayala Park. In addition to its stunning playgrounds, lighted basketball courts, dog park, conference rooms and senior meal kitchen, the park has become a hub for activities for all ages. Next summer, Ayala Park will add a splash pad, giving families another reason to enjoy the space.

“This garden is just one more step toward creating a thriving, engaged community,” added Aaron Speer, Bloomington Recreations and Park District supervisor. “I look forward to seeing this garden grow and watching how it brings people together, thanks to the leadership of the Girl Scouts and the many hands that have contributed to its success.”
