Grand Terrace High School Football has officially begun and it is Friday Night Lights for the following weeks.

The first game was on Thursday, August 19, and it still had the same feel as the lights shined bright, the Titan Spirit was in the air, and the weather was nice. There were several vendors as well as the Senior Legacy Committee at the entrance to greet all spectators and sell or promote their services.

Daniel Hawkins who is always at every Varsity game said, “We are back for another great season for the Titans!” It was very visible that he was excited to watch the Titans play again and said, “Titan Pride!”

The time had finally come for the GTHS Football Titans to step onto the field to play Elsinore High School Tigers, and really show what they had been preparing for. The Titans fought hard all the way to the end but came up short and sadly as the Tigers won 6 – 29.

The game did not turn out how the Titans wanted but this will give them an opportunity to see what they need to work on and will give them the motivation to bounce back.

The first touchdown of the season, as predicted by the Titans, was made by Exzavior Oliver #30, known by many as “Showtime." With just 10 seconds left before going into halftime, Exzavior had a kickoff return taking it all the way to the endzone, running up 80 yards, and scoring a touchdown with his signature leap into the endzone.

The excitement was heard all through the stadium as the crowd went wild; The Titan Pep Squad cheered loud, the student section named the Thunder Zone sang and stomped their feet, and the GTHS Legacy Regiment rocked out. This was a Football Night Lights feeling that we had been waiting for all year!

The GTHS ASB also did an amazing job with their decorations for the theme of the night, beach luau, and it was great to see school staff, students, and parents come dressed in their Hawaiian attire. Aloha ‘Ohana!

Titans will regroup, watch the film, work on making changes, and practice all week to prepare for their next game against Colton High School for an away game. It will be a blackout game so show your support by wearing black Titan gear.

We hope you can come out and fill the stands and help the Titan Pep Squad cheer for our Titans as they go against competitive teams!
