Water Safety

Summer in Moreno Valley means sunshine, family barbeques, and - of course - playtime at the beach, lakes, and swimming pools. Whether you’re enjoying a dip in your own backyard pool or bodysurfing SoCal’s famous waves, water safety should always be top of mind. Because the truth is, drowning is fast, silent…and preventable.

As a community, we’re committed to doing everything we can to end drowning incidents in MoVal. Making a difference starts with awareness and action. It’s imperative that we never leave children unattended near water, even for a second. We also owe it to our children to teach them how to swim. There are many local and regional classes available, such as our Aquatics Program at Valley View High School. Also, make sure pools have proper barriers and covers, and it’s always helpful to learn CPR. Taking steps like these can prevent incidents and save lives.

The Moreno Valley Fire Department has put together helpful tips and resources to prepare you and your loved ones for a safe swim season. It’s also easy to make it official by taking the Pool Safety Pledge! There’s a version for adults and kids, and it only takes a minute. But that minute could make all the difference. Take the pledge and get more info at moval.org/poolsafety and share it with your friends and family.

Let’s enjoy everything this summer has to offer, but let’s do it safely. Together, we can make drowning a thing of the past in Moreno Valley.
