Voice of the People: To the Editor of Grand Terrace City News

We are approaching election time in Grand Terrace and this year locally we will be voting for our Mayor and one City Council Member. First I want to ask all citizens of Grand Terrace to become familiar with the candidates, their position on issues that impact all of us, and their qualifications. I also ask the candidates to take the time to communicate their position on issues and why they should be elected. I hope all candidates do the same and then we the voters can make an informed decision. For some it was curious to note the magical revenue that was found shortly after Measure C was voted down. Some may have wondered why the parks nor the Senior Center were closed as we were told in the information passed in favor of Measure C. I am a simple conservative who feels that we already pay too many taxes. Government seems to think the answer to all problems can be fixed with higher taxes and more government. As Ronald Reagan once said, "Government is not the solution, it is the problem." I feel this will be a very highly contested election in Grand Terrace and my hope is that the voters will take the time to understand the positions and qualifications of the candidates and then make an informed and educated decision. I would also like to see large numbers vote so the true will of the citizens is reflected. Grand Terrace is still in a position to show the cities around us how city government can responsibly manage itself and not fall into the unending cycle of tax and spend. Grand Terrace has always been an attractive place for families to raise their children, to buy homes, and for business owners to invest in. We have always been the little city on the hill that our neighbors envied. We need to become the large city on the hill that our neighbors envy. I look forward to hearing more from all of the candidates that are running for offices in Grand Terrace.
