Annual Event Beautifies Parks

The Redlands Service Club Council and the Mormon Helping Hands joined together once again to bring the Helping Hands Community Day of Service (HHCDS). The first HHCDS took place last year, when 2,300 volunteers, and hundreds of businesses, schools and organizations got together to create a new park in Redlands. This year, the event covered 4 beautification projects, 3 in Redlands and one in the city of Highland. At Israel Beal park, volunteers removed stumps and weeds, spread mulch, planted trees and picked up trash. 40,000 square feet of sod was laid at Heritage Park. Volunteers helped witht hte maintanance of Highland park and the roadsides and median along Redlands Blvd got some new trees and wood chips. A free lunch was provided after the event. Among those organizations who sponsored the event were the Kiwanis Club, the Rotary Club, Music Changing Lives, and some of the local schools. The HHCDS has brought thousands of businesses and on hundreds of beautification project in the past years in Redlands, Highland, Mentone and other surrounding communities.

A residence shows visible damage from flooding, mud and debris following severe winter storms that began Dec. 23, which brought heavy rain and debris flows to mountain and high desert communities across San Bernardino County. This week, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved recovery-related fee waivers to help eligible property owners repair and rebuild as response and long-term recovery efforts continue.
