MVUSD Sees Positive API Growth

Moreno Valley Unified School District’s (MVUSD) Academic Performance Index (API) increased by three points from 742 to 745, according to a recent news release, making it one of the top five districts in Riverside County with positive API change for the 2012–2013 school year. Moreno Valley Unified ranks second in the top five, behind San Jacinto Unified School District, who saw an increase of four points. The other top five ranking school districts in Riverside County are Menifee Union Elementary, with one point, Perris Elementary with one point, and Desert Sands Unified, Jurupa Unified and Palm Springs Unified seeing no change in API scores, according to the release. “We are moving in a positive direction, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our school board, management team, teachers, parents and, especially, our students,” said MVUSD Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services Dr. Martinrex Kedziora. Moreno Valley’s Honey Hollow Elementary School made the top five elementary schools for 2012–2013 API change list according to the release, coming in at number five with its 24-point API increase against San Jacinto Elementary (San Jacinto Unified) with a 48-point increase; Vista del Monte Elementary (Palm Springs Unified) with a 35-point increase; Val Verde Elementary (Val Verde Unified) with a 26-point increase; Rio Vista Elementary (Palm Springs Unified) with a 24- point increase; and River Springs Charter (Riverside County Office of Education) with a 24-point increase. Moreno Valley Unified School District’s Vista del Lago High School made the top five comprehensive high schools for 2012–2013 API Change, with its increase of 25 API points, making it number two in the top five list. Vista del Lago comes in second only to Patriot High School (Jurupa Unified) with a 25-point increase. John F. Kennedy High (Corona–Norco Unified) came in with an increase of 24 points; Norte Vista High (Alvord Unified) with a 22-point increase; and Temescal Canyon High (Lake Elsinore Unified) with a 22-point increase. Over two-thirds of school districts overall had base to growth decreases, the release states. The chart provided shows the state, average district, and MVUSD API Change from the years 2001–2012 and 2012–2013.
