Tickets Now on Sale for CSUSB Production 'Invisible,' Opening March 7

The Cal State San Bernardino theatre arts department returns its 2013-2014 season of “Image vs. Reality” to the main stage with “Invisible,” conceived and directed by department chair Kathryn Ervin. Opening March 7, “Invisible” dares to ask the question: What do you see? What happens when one person becomes invisible due to the circumstances of life and another chooses to be? This exploration of the classic novels by H.G. Wells and Ralph Ellison focuses on the struggles of two such people in a modern, urban setting. With a story told through music, movement and poetry. “How many of us think about our online ‘presence’ every day? Technology creates community via social networking and the Internet,” said Ervin. “There’s an anonymity that accompanies an online persona that enables some to treat others very cruelly. This can lead to horrifying consequences. Does this affect how we behave in the real world? How we see the homeless in our streets, or the people who work in service industries? “This play was developed from the two novels titled ‘Invisible Man,’” Ervin said. “The first, written by H.G. Wells, a pioneering science fiction writer, envisioned challenges of the future and identity, whereas Ralph Ellison’s social novel confronted issues of identity and awareness of the everyday people around us.” “Invisible” opens Friday, March 7, and runs for eight performances, closing on Sunday, March 16. Performances begin at 8 p.m., with a Saturday matinee, March 15, and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. The production is in the Ronald E. Barnes Theatre on the CSUSB Campus. Tickets are $15 for general admission, $12 for seniors, military, and non-CSUSB students, and $6 for CSUSB students (with valid ID) and children under 17.
