REDLANDS>> “Flat Fish,” a play by University of Redlands sophomore Sean Dunnington, will be presented this weekend by the University of Redlands Artists’ Collective, and performed by a cast of six students. Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 2 and Saturday, Dec. 3, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4 at the U of R’s Theatre Arts Building, Rabbit Hole, second floor. The building is located on the east side of the Glenn Wallichs Theatre, on University Street, between Colton and Citrus avenues. Entrance to the parking lot is off of Sylvan Boulevard, just east of University Street, north of the I-10 freeway. Tickets, which are sold at the door, are $5 for any student and U of R staff, and $8 for general admission. For more info about tickets, please email: tickets.URAC@gmail.com Dunnington said he wrote the play as part of his U of R Playwriting class, taught by Laural Meade. The play will be featured in a reading in January at the Theaterlab in Manhattan, as part of the Fresh Grind Festival, a new works event hosted by Black Coffee Productions. The Festival chose two musicals, four plays and four 10-minute plays. “Flat Fish” will be presented twice – opening the festival at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 and 2 p.m. Jan. 22. “Having the play chosen to be performed at the U of R was an honor,” Dunnington said. “I was not only excited about having the play presented by the University of Redlands Artists’ Collective, but having it done by my best friends made it spectacular. Dunnington said seeing such interest and enthusiasm from his peers solidified the fact that he wants to be a playwright. “Our entire production team is formed of students, including the director and assistant director," Dunnington said. "More than 20 people auditioned, and, unfortunately, only six could be cast. I know the entire production team and cast, and they know me. Collaboration, interpretation and community – these are all concepts that are intertwined in the process of this show and I can't wait to see it on the stage."
