Ladies and gentleman, start your engines! K&N Filter's 2014 and Go Car Show for Charity kicked off Friday May 2nd in celebration of classic cars and those who love them. The three-day long event featured an assortment of activities and vendors offering family fun for the public free of cost. Coldstone, Ashy Wieners, and Kona Ice were just a few of the food vendors present offering treats to the many families in attendance. Classic cars of virtually every make, model, and color lined the ordinarily busy Market St. No two cars at the event were alike, ranging in color, shape, and model, but each of these cars had a distinct personality all its own. The owners of these treasured cars came from all different walks of life, but they were all connected in their love and dedication to automotive pieces of history. The friendship between car owners Wayne Garrett, John Keith, and Jake Hebel illustrates the unique bond that can grow at these events. Garret, Keith and Hebel each attend multiple cars shows every year, and through these functions they found each other. Keith explains the joy that comes from attending these functions, sharing, "When you attend so many of them they begin to feel like family reunions." In addition to the connections that are formed, Keith enjoys seeing the younger generations admire these classics. "Younger generations seem to really like these cars because they have personalities and are original, unlike modern cars." Bill Arsenault's beloved '65 Shelby Cobra was just one of the dozens of cars displayed at the event. Arsenault attended the event with his wife, Barbara, and together they reflected on their cherished possession. "I was eighteen years old when I saw the Cobra for the first time, and I made a promise to myself that I would owe one one day," explains Bill, "My dream came of ownership came true many, many years later." Barbara purchased the car from the car's late creator, Carroll Shelby. Shelby personally autographed parts of the car, making it truly priceless. Arsenault too noticed the level of interest younger generations have in his car. "This model is very popular with younger kids, I believe it is because of racing car video games that feature this model. People come up to me in the street wanting to take pictures of it." At this event, the cars drive through the downtown streets, allowing the cars to be appreciated in action and gives the owners a chance to show off their hard work.
