Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Redlands-Riverside’s Chocolate Fantasy event on Feb. 13 raised more than $106,000, the most in the event’s 22-year history. The organization’s marquee fundraiser at the Mitten Building in Redlands drew 257 people. “We’d like to say a huge thank you to Rowena and James Ramos, our title sponsors for the third year running,” said Boys & Girls Clubs CEO P.T. McEwen. “Their generosity and that of our other donors made it possible for us to break our Chocolate Fantasy fundraising record. It’s all for the kids!” Attendees enjoyed savory and sweet treats from local restaurants and bakeries while dancing to the tunes of the B.O.E. Band and participating in live and silent auctions. Live auction items included trips to Maui and Washington, D.C.; a Goodyear blimp ride, behind-the-scenes tours of Disney animatronics contractor Garner Holt Productions, and winery and brewery tours. Silent auction items included Disneyland and San Diego Zoo/Safari Park tickets, birthday parties at the Club and a Redlands Fire Department station, a murder mystery scavenger hunt, and premium Angels seats. “The auction was great -- we had some terrific items and our supporters were very generous in contributing to the selection we had,” said Chocolate Fantasy committee chairperson Kate Salvesen. “We also tried to add more experiences to the silent auction, which people like.” Redlands Fire Chief Jeff Frazier won the raffle for an Apple Watch. Vendors included Mill Creek Cattle Co., State Street Winery, Starbucks, The Mitten Building, Michelle’s Bakery, Jose’s Mexican Food, Starbucks, Corner Bakery Café, along with Ritual, Escape, and Hangar 24 breweries. Guests voted for Chocolatier of the Year, Restaurateur of the Year, and Decorations of the Year. Michelle’s Bakery won Chocolatier of the Year and Decorations of the Year, and the Mitten Building won Restaurateur of the Year. “The vendors truly make Chocolate Fantasy an unforgettable experience and we couldn’t do it without them,” McEwen said. “Our event committee also did a fantastic job making a memorable event for all who attended.”
