Wraymond Sawyerr Runs to Represent District 4

Moreno Valley resident and business owner Wraymond Sawyerr seeks election to represent Moreno Valley’s District 4. Born in Sierra Leone, West Africa, Sawyerr immigrated to the United States in 1983, “to seek the American dream,” Sawyerr said. After he was left stranded once he arrived, Sawyerr said, “I have worked and continue to work very, very hard.” Sawyerr, who currently serves as the vice president on the Val Verde Unified School District Board, said, “My decision to run for the city council seat was initiated in the belief that my experiences working diligently with the school board and the District’s professional staff would assist me with tackling issues in a positive fashion. It is time for me to apply my previous experiences with the same commitment and focus to help turn Moreno Valley around.” Sawyerr said he would like to implement “the restoration of trust and integrity in City Hall,” where a code of ethics and tough lobbying restrictions would ensure transparency, Sawyerr said. “The city can be safe and financially strong with an honest, open and transparent city government,” Sawyerr said. Other goals of his if elected, Sawyer explained, would be increased DUI checkpoints and continued partnerships between the council and both the Moreno Valley Unified and Val Verde Unified school districts. He also wants to create a business-friendly city. "That would put residents back to work and create professional jobs for people currently community to Los Angeles and Orange County,” Sawyerr said. Investments in police, fire and other emergency services are also necessary, Sawyerr said. Sawyerr attended Riverside Community College and obtained a Masters of Governance from California School Board Association (CSBA) certificate. He is a member of the Moreno Valley Traffic and Safety Committee. “If elected, I would bring community and board experience, honesty, trust, integrity and a commitment to bring the best to Moreno Valley,” he said. Sawyerr runs against opponents Weldon Boone, Gwendolyn Cross, Jaime Moreno, Yxstian Gutierrez, Jaime Moreno, Lori Nickel and Robin Wetmore for the seat.
