Jaime Moreno Runs for District 4 Council Seat

District 4 candidate Jaime Moreno is running for city council to help bring Moreno Valley into the future, he explained. “Now is the time for new leadership to forge forward a realistic vision of tomorrow,” Moreno said. General and economic plan updates will “meet the rapid changes in demographic, technology and natural resources of our residents,” Moreno said. “I believe that if Moreno Valley does not act now, we will lose in the long run as other cities continue to outgrow us in the aforementioned facets that make a successful community.” Moreno graduated from the University of California, Riverside with a degree in political science and a concentration in law and society. Interning with the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors helped him “learn the importance of factoring in demographics, technology and natural resources to make sound and effective policies that make communities thrive,” Moreno said. If elected, Moreno said he would work to create economic growth, saying he hopes to “create a safety net of jobs by investing in various business industries.” Job creation through partnerships with investors and local businesses, and filling empty business spaces in the city, are also his goals, Moreno explained. Moreno said he plans to pass a balanced budget without tax increase by working with city departments to cut spending and find “cost-effective means of running our government.” Pushing for a voter-approved independently elected mayor is another one of his goals, as are term limits for city leaders and “bringing diversity” to the dais with six council members instead of five. “I would bring to the council a vision and a plan to create a better future for Moreno Valley…(and) youth and rigor that is representative of our city’s demographic,” Moreno shared. “My main goal is to make Moreno Valley a thriving place to work and raise our families… (Being) debt-free, economically stable and civically honest will make us a proud community.” Other District 4 candidates include Weldon Boone, Gwendolyn Cross, Yxstian Gutierrez, Lori Nickel, Wraymond Sawyerr and Robin Wetmore.
