REDLANDS>> With only a week left before tee time, more than 140 golfers are honing their skills in preparation to descend upon Redlands Country Club June 15  at for the 35th annual Redlands Community Hospital Foundation Golf Classic for the Ken Corwin Cup.

The tournament, which for more than three decades has served as Redlands Community Hospital’s largest and most visible fundraising event, is expected to raise an estimated $200,000 from sponsorships, golfer participation and auctions, with proceeds going to support expansion and renovation of the hospital’s growing emergency department. The tournament will be managed from start to finish by more than 80 volunteers from the hospital, the country club and the community.

Following the tournament, participants will gather in the clubhouse for a special awards dinner featuring live and silent auctions included during the festivities; tickets to Disneyland and premier tickets to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim games will be included among the many items to be auctioned off. A variety of golf-related items, including equipment will also be raffled off during the dinner.

“The Golf Classic is a highlight of our fundraising year,” said Jan Opdyke, president of the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation. “Not only is it an especially good time, but it raises a significant amount of money for hospital programs and services. This year, proceeds will help fund the expansion of our emergency department, which provides lifesaving care to residents from throughout the Inland Valley community. What better way to partner with the hospital than by supporting this extremely worthy event!”

The Ken Corwin Cup is dedicated to the memory of Kenton W. Corwin, longtime president of the hospital foundation and a prime mover in the tournament’s establishment and success. One hundred and thirty sponsors have pledged to support the tournament, including three $10,000 Diamond sponsorships: Hamilton Construction, of Pomona; Lockton Insurance Brokers, Los Angeles; and Citizens Business Bank, San Bernardino.

While the tournament itself will provide a full day of fun and entertainment, participants have their longer-range sights set on the emergency department expansion project.  Renovations include the development of an eight-bed fast track area, a 12-bed pod for moderately ill or injured patients, a 12-bed high-acuity pod with two critical-care rooms, five rapid medical evaluation/triage stations and additional nursing stations and offices. For additional information, please call the Redlands Community Hospital Foundation at (909) 335-5540.
