East Valley Water District held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 6 to commemorate the $4.2 million dollar upgrades at the Philip A. Disch – Plant 134 Surface Water Treatment Plant. Now including Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) technology, the facility utilizes an additional safety measure in the treatment process, providing enhanced treatment capabilities for the community’s surface water supplies.
Treating up to 8 million gallons per day, Plant 134 serves as a crucial resource helping meet East Valley Water District’s mission to provide quality drinking water to over 104,000 residents and businesses. Throughout different seasons, both Santa Ana River and State Water Project surface water, treated at Plant 134, gather additional organic elements like dirt, mud, leaves, and other content that cause variations in their organic content.
“East Valley Water District recognizes the importance of investing in infrastructure and technology as part of our service to the community,” said Michael Moore, General Manager/CEO. “The GAC upgrade at Plant 134 is a critical investment to maximize the District’s ability to use surface water whenever it is available.”
Granular Activated Carbon is a proven technology to remove a wide range of contaminants from drinking water. The process is highly effective at capturing organic material using activated carbon to attract and adsorb contaminants as water flows through it.
