Redlands Assisteens Hold Annual Dinner

The Assisteens of Redlands, an auxiliary of the Assistance League of Redlands, held their annual recognition dinner on May 22.

The event served as a time to celebrate and highlight special members and some of the work being done in the local community.  This year, members volunteered over 3,500  hours from June 2016-May 10th, 2017

Special recognition was given to outstanding board member, Katie Liu, who was the Treasurer and Resource Development Chairman.  

“Katie was the backbone of our annual fundraiser, the International Food Faire,” said one representative. “Katie came up with the idea and did most of the planning and overseeing of the event. 

The Ambassador Award was handed out to Cheryl Green and Melissa Johnson. This The Assisteens of Redlands, an auxiliary of the Assistance League of Redlands, held their annual recognition dinner on May 22.

The Ambassador Award was handed out to Cheryl Green and Melissa Johnson. This award is given to those who exemplify full potential of an Assisteen; including commitment, responsibility, attendance and personality. 

Top hour award winners were, Jared Carlin; 1st place, Kenia Garcia; 2nd place, and Jade Sirisute; 3rd place. 

Top Hours Award winners: Provisionals; (first year members)  Emily Cervantes; 1st place,  Jade Carlin; 2nd place and Karen Garcia; 3rd place. 

The Recognition Dinner also served as a welcome to the incoming Provisional Class for 2017-2018. The Assisteens Advisors; Tammy McCarty and Summer Selby, along with the PALS (Parents of Assisteens Lending Support); Pam Sibley, Jessie Chu, Mary Lamoureux, Yian Chen, Kim Lott, Erika Ramos, Lori Sisemore, Kim Simon, Michelle Swinehart, Monica Andersen, Catherine Schreiber and Meena Spangrud, are looking forward to having their largest membership in years.

“We are hoping to move our meetings to a school site MPR so we can comfortably hold our monthly meetings,” said a representative. 

 The Assisteens of Redlands meet on a monthly basis for information sharing and volunteer sign ups.  The Assisteens volunteer at The Assistance League Thrift Shop, Family Services, the Boys & Girls Club, Micah House, various events at the University of Redlands, the Redlands Bowl Summer Music Festival, School carnivals and annual events, Etc. 

The Board, which is made of up mostly Junior and Senior high school members, run the 

meetings and the committees help facilitate everything the auxiliary does. 

 In February, the Assisteens had their annual Medallion Dinner where the seniors were honored at a formal dinner, which included a waltz.

The Redlands chapter is co-ed, as are many of the chapters across the nation.  This year, ten members were seniors graduates: McKenna Avery from RHS will be attending San Diego State, Allissa Burns from Citrus Valley will be attending Chico State University, Jocelyn Chu from RHS will be attending Biola University, Sarra Larif from RHS will be 

attending UC San Diego, Kristin Lee from RHS will be attending UC San Diego, Katie Liu from Redlands East Valley will be attending UC Berkeley, Jodi Lynch from RHS will be attending Rutgers University in New Jersey, Amatullah Maloo from Citrus Valley will be 

attending college in the Los Angeles area.  Sheridan Selby from Citrus Valley will be attending Oregon State University, and Serena Sorajjakool from Citrus Valley will be attending Arizona State University.
