Are you craving an autumn outing with family and friends, perhaps a hike or a picnic? Redlands Conservancy has a few suggestions. At the Herngt 'Aki' Preserve at Oakmont Park (South Lane and Sutherland), you will find a few picnic tables ready for you. You can bring your picnic to San Timoteo Nature Sanctuary, east entrance on Alessandro, and walk in about one-fourth mile to Bobcat Bowl. Sit on the logs and enjoy a quiet and peaceful meal, except for the occasional train passing by. Or go to the west entrance and find your way to the picnic table on the north side of Beverley's Pond. Go to historic Asistencia, 26930 Barton Road on Sunday afternoons, and enjoy your picnic there in the courtyard. A final possibility: Gateway Ranch, 31313 Live Oak Canyon Road. Find a few spots: The Watering Hole, up the hill from the parking area and behind the house; Memorial Plaza, halfway up the hill, toward the road - there's a beautiful table there: take off the tarp when you want to eat, then replace the tarp when you leave. But, please don't carve anything into the table! Or, you can just walk through the Gateway Garden and sit in one of the Adirondack-style chairs to enjoy your picnic. As always, enjoy, and leave no trace.
