Recruitment Fair brings Options to Seniors

The commons area at Vista del Lago High School was packed with students attending the U-CAN Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Recruitment Fair on Wednesday.

The event was an opportunity for seniors to talk with recruiters from nearly 40 HBCUs along with military branches, some which offered application fee waivers, “on the spot” admissions and scholarships.
For juniors, it was a chance to learn about a variety of schools that they may not have otherwise had the opportunity to hear about. Moreno Valley high schools helped make attending the fair easier by offering bus transportation to the event for interested students.

“In Moreno Valley, we are taking care of the needs of all of our students and some of our African-American students who would never have thought about going to college come here and they are empowered and accepted to go to school,” said Lisa Broomfield, Director of Categorical Programs

"Events like the HBCU Recruitment Fair are the result of our district making every effort to champion equity for all students," said Board Member Jesús M. Holguín. "We are making sure students are exposed to schools from around the country that may specifically offer the programs that students are looking for."
