On Friday, April 25, 2025 Council Member Dr.G (Dr. Luis S González) presented the CITY TALK “Community Impact Award” to Robert Amador, a life-long Colton resident, who has devoted his time and attention to serving the community with his involvement in the Ken Hubb Baseball Little League. For ten years, Robert has been an umpire “behind the plate” and brings to each game not only the passion for baseball but a lifelong experience of Ken Hubbs Baseball as a player, coach and now an umpire.
This presentation was made in recognition of the numerous hours and levels of service by Robert Amador, who through his involvement has become a valuable asset to the Ken Hubbs Baseball Little League. Board member Carlos Ariza explains, “Robert is an excellent asset to the Ken Hubbs league. He played as a youth, has coached for 25 years and has the experience necessary for calling a great game.” Sometimes, he is on the field 3-4 nights a week, but is always ready to work behind the plate with alertness, fairness, and energy making each team and player confident in the way the game is managed. When approached, another Board Member, Lisa Roo, wanted to respond saying, “Umpire Robert brings with him years of experience and a deep wealth of knowledge about the sport of baseball and the specific rules of Little League.”
When asked personally about serving as an umpire for the Ken Hubbs Baseball Little League, Robert commented, “I always wanted to help the community and give back.” As a lifelong resident of Colton, Robert not only knows the baseball program well but also knows the dynamics that come with umpiring, including establishing a rapport with the league, working out details with Board Members, talking with coaches, dealing with parents, and making calls on every play. Robert also stays active by holding down his own full-time job during the week, but because he works graveyard hours, he makes himself available in the evening to umpire games. He is also willing to help where needed.
Because of his responsiveness, people skills, work ethic, and dedication Robert Amador is regarded as a valuable asset to the Ken Hubbs Baseball Little League. His colleagues in the association of umpires look to him as a role model, and the team coaches throughout the league count on him to be effective and fair. The purpose of this presentation was to officially recognize Robert’s contribution to the Ken Hubbs Baseball Little League and to show appreciation for his dedication and commitment to youth baseball and the community.
The CITY TALK “Community Impact Award” was established in 2020 by Dr.G to recognize the great efforts that people make “behind the scenes” to make our community, the City of Colton, a better place. Mr. Richard Amador is a great choice for this recognition. His time and effort in supporting the Ken Hubbs Baseball League, and the community, is exactly what this award is about. Congratulations to Robert Amador for being selected as the recipient of the “Community Impact Award.”
