Tim and Louise Lunstrum: Half a Century of Love and Marraige

After 50 years of love, partnership, and shared experiences, Tim and Louise Lunstrum celebrated their enduring marriage with a heartfelt vow renewal ceremony. The event, held on November 2, was organized by close friends Becky and Ed Giroux, at their beautiful home, who encouraged the Lunstrums to mark the milestone in a memorable way..

“We were just talking about our 50th anniversary, and Becky said, ‘You know what? You need to have a celebration. You need to renew your vows,’” Tim recalled. “And before we knew it, it went from a small idea to a big event with 70 people!”

The vow renewal ceremony was hosted at Becky and Ed’s home, sparing the Lunstrums the hassle of finding a location. The couple’s son, Todd, stood as Tim’s best man, and their daughter Paula Harold was Louise’s maid of honor. Even their grandchildren, Peyton and Brody, played roles, with Brody serving as the ring bearer.

The band with Chuck Stewart / Bodie Mountain Express and the Stewart Watson band provided the music. “I went to school with the band members,” Tim said. “They’ve played all over, at Disneyland and on Cruises. It was such a treat to have them there.”

One of the most touching and humorous moments of the day was a “French fry toast.” Ed, who officiated the ceremony, incorporated a detail from Tim and Louise’s first date at McDonald’s in Riverside, where they shared Coke and fries. “Ed had everyone hold up a French fry during the ceremony to toast us,” Tim laughed. “It was such a fun way to bring our story full circle.”

Reflecting on their half-century together, the Lunstrums shared their secrets to a lasting marriage. “We never go to bed angry, we always say ‘I love you,’ and we communicate,” Louise explained. “It’s about respect and putting the other person first.”

Tim added, “We’ve spent most of our adult lives working side-by-side, 24 hours a day. It’s not always easy, but it taught us to rely on each other.”

The couple also spoke about the challenges they’ve faced, including the devastating loss of their daughter, Melissa. “It’s something you never expect to go through as a parent,” Louise shared. “But we leaned on our family and each other. It brought us closer.”

Tim and Louise have built not only a strong marriage but also a legacy of service and kindness in their community. Known for their involvement in the Grand Terrace Lions club, volunteerism and generosity, the couple continues to be pillars of support for those around them.

As they look to the future, their focus remains on health, family, and continuing the meaningful life they’ve built together. “We’ve accomplished a lot in 50 years,” Tim said. “And now, it’s about enjoying the time we have, staying strong, and being there for each other.”

For those hoping to achieve a lasting marriage, Tim offered a simple yet profound piece of advice: “It’s not about ‘me.’ It’s about ‘us.’”

The Lunstrums’ vow renewal was a celebration of love that has stood the test of time—a reminder that, with mutual respect and unwavering commitment, a marriage can truly flourish for decades.

“It was a day we earned,” Tim concluded. “And a day we’ll never forget.”
